About 2 weeks ago, Best of Utah Moving Company helped my family with a local move.
Let me preface this review by saying the movers themselves were kind and were careful about our stuff (minus 1 important item) during the move. They generally worked hard the entire time. This is no complaint about them, and in fact I left them with a fair tip. It's the management of the company itself I have a problem with, one of their policies and a lack of desire to help us with a significant problem during the move. First, we requested 4 movers. Only 3 movers showed up. While they changed the rate from 4 to 3 movers, most of the stuff we had to move were large 2-person items, since we'd already moved most of the small boxes ourselves. Three people ended up not being much more effective than 2 people. One of the movers, through no fault of his own, was standing around most of them because one person couldn't lift most of the items left at our house by himself.
Another major complaint we have is the company's policy regarding masks. We have a very high risk person in our household, and the company doesn't require any of its employees to wear masks (during a mask mandate in Utah) at any time. If you want any of the movers to wear masks, you have to request it of them personally and provide them, and even then they can refuse. I understand strenuous activity can be difficult for a person with a mask on, but there were cases where they were wrapping items, or just planning the move while walking through the house or during the time of dealing with the bill that they could've worn masks. They didn't bring hand sanitizer, wear gloves or make any attempt to keep us safe during this pandemic. I don't blame this on the movers but on the company's lack of policy. I feel this is incredibly irresponsible and puts certain high risk peoples' lives in danger.
Finally, the biggest problem I had was the company's lack of desire to compensate me for an item that was ruined. They claim to offer a complementary coverage of .60 per lb/item damaged. A key part of a $350 desk was not moved to our new house. We walked through the old house and verified nothing was left behind. This essential part was a 6-foot long piece of wood and it was in the middle of a room in the old house with the other parts of the desk. We've unpacked all of our things now in the new house and the item is not here. I was never given an opportunity to scan the inside of their truck to see if it was still there or not after the unload at the new house. I'm assuming it got pushed up against the side of the truck and left there. I know they had another move that evening, so it likely got dropped off at someone else's house. That's just speculation, but I do know for sure we don't have the part, and without it, the desk can't be put together.
I've talked to customer service several times to address these issues. Every time I call, they say they don't have an answer for me and they'll call me back. They do call me back, but refuse to do anything for us. I only wished to either receive some (no matter how small) compensation for either the desk or the fact that them sending me 3 movers was terribly inefficient.
Because of the $350 desk that's now garbage, their irresponsible mask policy and their refusal to compensate me anything for the inefficiency of the 3 movers, I can't leave a rating any higher than 1 star. Again, this isn't a reflection on the individual movers themselves, but on the poor way the company deals with issues.
