What is your secret to such a strong online reputation?
We try to live up to what the reviews say in the first place. There are no smoke and mirrors. We don’t give incentives to give reviews; we just work really hard to live up to our clients’ expectations.
What makes you different? In other words, if you had one minute to sell somebody on why they should choose you, what would you say?
Our love of professionalism and communication are what really set us apart.
We also try to stick very closely to our promised timeframes. We don’t pull any wool over our clients’ eyes; we lay it all out for them. We try very hard to educate our clients and let them know why things are the way they are, and they appreciate that.
Why do you do what you do? In other words, what is your mission and/or how do you attempt to make the world a better place?
When I was in high school, I took a bookkeeping class and fell in love with it. One thing led to another, and when I went to college at the University of Utah for my undergrad and the Thunderbird School of International Management for my master’s, it aligned with what I wanted to do. I had an opportunity to become a controller with small firms, which turned into me acquiring clients and starting my own practice.
Outside of building a strong online reputation, what else do you do to market and grow your business?
Our reputation is very important, and it’s not just online. We provide good service, and in turn, we get referrals from our clients. Up until about six or seven years ago, the practice was just my son and myself, and we worked through word of mouth. Approximately 60 percent of our leads now come through online advertising, and the rest are from happy clients.
What advice do you have for other businesses trying to build a strong online reputation and grow their business?
Say what you’ll do, and do what you say.
