We wanted to learn all about Black Cat Barber Company and its impressive online reputation, so we took a few minutes to talk with the owner, Kevin Clement.
The first question we had for Kevin was what is it that sets Black Cat Barber Company apart from their competition in Utah. Here’s Kevin’s response:
“It’s not just a haircut; it’s an experience that you’ll get each and every time. We don’t deviate… We’re consistent with our service every time, and that’s why we retain such a high customer return ratio. We custom cut everyone’s hair to the shape of their head. …That’s pretty much why we do what we do — so that we can keep capitalizing, growing and priding ourselves on being the best around. And we intend to only get better.”
Kevin went on to say:
“We’re just a small shop with a lot of local guys here. A lot of us are, by society’s norms, all tattooed up and look rough and tumble. But we’re just a bunch of honest guys making an honest living. We just love what we do. When you love what you do, you never work…”
We also wanted to know what their mission is at Black Cat Barber Company and how they work to make the world a better place. Here’s what Kevin had to say:
“My personal motto has always been to treat others as you want to be treated and always take care of your community. Treat your community as if they were your own, because at the end of the day, likes on Facebook, Instagram and social media aren’t what pay our bills. It’s the clients themselves who come in who pay our bills. My mission statement is that every client that comes in is an audition. We’re auditioning to be their barber.”

“Don’t get lost in the online aspect of it. Take the time to get out and do the groundwork. Shake hands and meet people in the public as well. Really, really hone in on that word of mouth as well. That’s a big one especially for anybody that’s trying to grow a strong reputation. I tell a lot of clients, ‘If you can’t tip us and if you feel obligated to tip us, just leave us a review. That, to us, is just as good as a tip because that will pay dividends to us, tenfold over the years.’ We’re not pushing them but asking and emphasizing the importance… Just let people know how much it helps us, and they will feel compelled, especially if they like you. They want to help you, and if you stress to them the importance of helping you by leaving reviews, nine times out of 10, it’s easy. They’ll always want to help out and leave a good review.”
