Not Your Average Catering Company
We spoke with Joe Davidson, the owner of Sis’s Cafe and Catering, about the business’ stupendous online reputation.
We asked Joe what he believes it is that sets Sis’s Cafe and Catering apart from other catering companies in Alaska. “It’s fresh ingredients and homemade products; we make everything here. That’s pretty rare in our industry anymore, when everything in this day and age is either manufactured or prefab or commercialized,” he said. “It’s hard, and it has to be small independents that have that niche, or otherwise, the big boys, the chains, will just take us over.”
It’s important to Joe to take care of both his team and their customers. “Our mission is to take care of our associates and to deliver a quality product. At the end of the day, of course, satisfying our customers is important. We look for green products in our disposables; we try to use organic products so we look after the health and well-being of our customers, as well as the things we throw away and discard. What are we buying and what are they going to do to our environment long-term? People always talk all the time that it starts with one person, and I’m a firm believer in that,” he said.
Building Success Through Consistent Quality and Service
What’s the Sis’s Cafe and Catering secret to success? According to Joe, “It’s consistency in our product and value in our local customers. I think that’s the key to most businesses but it’s certainly been ours over the years.”

“Take care of your customers; stay on top of any kind of feedback, negative and positive, and follow up. I think it’s pretty important to follow up with your customers.”
