“My family has been seeing Dr. Aamodt for quite a while now. We love his professionalism that is forged in care and understanding. I cannot recommend him enough!” – A.P.

Not Your Average Chiropractic Clinic

Dr. Garth Aamodt, owner of Aamodt Chiropractic, generously gave us a few minutes of his time to tell us about his award-winning business and its impressive online reputation.

The first question we had for Dr. Aamodt was what sets his clinic apart from the many others people could turn to in Michigan. Here’s his response:

“We reflect my philosophy of altruistic care in our community approach. I treat active-duty military and their families for free. I provide discounted or pro bono care to those unable to pay. No one is turned away, and my values are genuine, which patients quickly sense and come to respect. They know that they will be treated professionally and released from care as soon as possible. If they later return for a future need, they will not be drawn into new x-rays or an expensive 3-2-1 type of plan. My goal is to be your family’s trusted chiropractor because you will not be indoctrinated or coerced into exaggerated treatment plans and rote assembly-line care. We run a family practice so your family becomes my family. We have no ulterior motives. I think my honesty, expertise and establishment of complete trust has seen my practice thrive for almost four decades now.”

We also wanted to know what their mission is at Aamodt Chiropractic and how they work to make the world a better place. Here’s what Dr. Aamodt had to say:

“Our clinic supports the Women At Risk charity every year with fund-raisers for women’s shelters. I am sure most of my patients have no idea that I also teach at the university or do hundreds of legal consultation cases or serve on an insurance advisory committee. I don’t talk about it since these are behind the scene issues that don’t impact their need as a patient. So I rarely, if ever, mention these side roles I play. I also have been a volunteer with the Boy Scouts for many years and have served in leadership roles in my local church, as well as serving two years as a full-time Christian missionary in Europe before completing my college years. These things have hopefully impacted how I live my life without having to toot my horn about it… My greatest love, of course, is my family, which includes five children and nine grandchildren. Most of my free time is spent with my grandkids.”

Building Success With a Complete Approach to Care

When asked about the Aamodt Chiropractic secret to a strong online reputation, Dr. Aamodt said:

“My clinic motto since beginning practice in 1982 has been, ‘Quality…not quantity care.’ I apply the golden rule to treat all patients as I would want to be treated myself, or as my family. I never do long-term, calendar-based treatment plans that project out months in advance. The most important phase of care is usually the initial phase, when an accurate diagnosis will form the basis for future care. I determine the problem, and then we treat with the goal of care being a full release when recovered. Each visit also is not blocked with a minimal time allotment, but rather with an expectation that change and progress will necessitate a unique approach. I, therefore, don’t do cookie-cutter care…We spend lots of time before any manipulation working on the connective soft tissue, with heat, trigger points, and massage. This all requires time and in-depth discussion. My patients tell me they feel heard and that I seek only their best interest. This requires more time and patient’s appreciate that nothing I do will be based on maximizing their visits, or fluff charges along the way.”

Dr. Aamodt went on to add:

“I have also tried to exemplify a complete approach to my care. I consult and refer if a patient needs a more diverse approach, which may include physical therapy or a specialist consult. I am perhaps more attuned to this approach as I am also a professor of anatomy, physiology and pathology in the Health Science Department at Davenport University, where I have taught since 2011. In 2004, I completed post-grad certification and training as an Independent Medical Examiner. This allows me to be a forensic expert in a variety of complex cases. As a peer-review doctor, I participate in many court cases. This requires me to be adept at reviewing of complex injury case so I can testify as an expert witness in legal cases…”

It’s clear that Dr. Aamodt has a lot of knowledge when it comes to growing a business and building an online reputation. Here’s his expert advice for the many other chiropractors out there:

“If you are the best ‘you’ you can be, everything else will take care of itself. If you are honest to the bone, caring, compassionate, with only your patient’s interests in mind, you cannot help but reflect that in all you are and do. Sadly, often the largest practices are based on volume care because the chiropractor burns through clients who learn sadly, once it’s too late, that the doctor’s main interest was on his own needs rather than theirs. I would advise a new practitioner to be the best doctor he can be, and the patients and income will naturally follow. Evidence-based care rather than ideological ‘salesmanship’ will build a practice that will never lack for referrals, as your patients love to refer their friends and neighbors to a doctor in whom they have full confidence.”
