Not Your Average Dance School
We wanted to know what makes Colorado’s number one dance school so special, so we took a few minutes to talk with, Mark Elliott Carlson, who co-owns International Ballet School with his wife.
The first question we had for Mark was what makes International Ballet School unique compared to their competition in Colorado. Here’s what he had to say:
“We’re not an international ballet school because we have schools all over the world; it’s because we train our students to dance anywhere in the world. There are many good teachers but not very many exceptional programs.”
Mark went on to add:
“We have had students at The Beijing International Ballet Competition, The Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland, The USA International Ballet Competition and Youth America Grand Prix in NY Finals, and they’ve also competed in Paris, Barcelona and Italy.”
We also asked Mark about International Ballet School’s mission and how they work to make the world a better place. Mark told us:
“Our mission is to do the best we can as we teach our students. We’ve had many successes, and we have continued to have success for the 20 years we have been doing this in Colorado. When you look at what’s happening in the world today as a parent, I think you would like your kids to be occupied in something where they have a focus and goals. I’m surrounded every day by beauty and grace in a place where people are trying as hard as they can. It’s wonderful to be around that kind of energy and focus. These kids are doing the best they can at home, in our dance studio and at school. They want their parents to support them, and they want to be good citizens of the world. I think that is our contribution to making the world a better place.”
Building Success With Dedicated Students
When we asked Mark what their secret is to such a strong online reputation at International Ballet School, he said:
“We don’t ask for reviews, I’m always surprised and appreciative when there is one. We have very dedicated students. Our advanced level students train 25 to 30 hours per week. The level under that trains for about 15 hours per week. From 10 years old, our students are training for 10 to 12 hours per week, so it’s like a second family. We have around 60 students, and they are all aiming for a career.”
Apart from building the kind of online reputation any business would envy, International Ballet School has spread the word about their service through their Facebook press and the national press gained by their students. International Ballet School was also featured in a Russian newspaper after one of their students was awarded a two-week, all-expense-paid trip for a gala.
