Not Your Average Electrician
We were excited to learn all about Mister Sparky and how they have gotten where they are today, so we sat down with the owner, Jay Stutts. Jay purchased Mister Sparky six years ago. He is a third generation electrician and in his 36th year of electrical contracting.
The first thing we wanted to know was what it is that makes Mister Sparky stand apart from its competitors. Jay told us about the personal care they offer. He said:
“The number one thing that sets us apart is that we answer the phone when you call. Customers tell us how happy they are to be able to talk to somebody in the office and not a machine or answering service. Candy is usually the one in our office answering the phones, and she is phenomenal with customers. A lot of our success is because of her. We also have software that we use that sends a text that allows customers to see the name and picture of the technician. We have clean uniforms and vans, and are very professional as well.”
When we asked Jay about the Mister Sparky business mission, he said:
“You’re busy, and your time is valuable. Having to wait on any service contractor simply isn’t acceptable, and that’s why when you call Mister Sparky. We’re on time; you’ll see, or the repair Is free!”
Building Success, Online and Off
Mister Sparky has earned an incredible reputation, so we were excited to hear about how they have managed to get their name out. While their corporate team handles most of their marketing, they have greatly benefited from their wonderful online reviews. We asked Jay what the secret is behind getting those online reviews. Jay said:
“We’ve educated our technicians to push getting reviews. We will ask customers for reviews in person and through follow-up texts and emails. We know how important it is for potential customers to see reviews before deciding on an electrician. We are only as good as the people out there doing the work, and I’ve been lucky to have great technicians. Our reputation comes from their hard work and diligence”
Mister Sparky is also committed to giving back to their community. Jay told us a bit about how they get involved:
“My team and I try to get involved in the community as much as possible. I support a lot of local charities, and at least once a year, our technicians will get involved with charity work as well. We’ve done a lot of great things with Habitat for Humanity over the years.”

“The biggest thing is that you will need enough capital to start, because it can take some time to build a customer base. You also have to be prepared for at least four years of grinding and getting your name out there. You are only as good as your reputation in the service business.”
