Not Your Average Family Doctor’s Office

We were excited to learn all about Dakota Child and Family Clinic and how they have gotten where they are today, so we sat down with the Office Manager, Maggie S.

The first thing we wanted to know was what it is that makes Dakota Child and Family Clinic stand apart from their competitors. Maggie told us about their intimate care and the dedication they have to making sure their clients are comfortable and properly cared for:

“We are pretty small! We only have three nurse practitioners. Because we are small, we are able to provide intimate care so that everyone gets more time with the nurses. This means we get to know our patients better. Our facility has a great family feel! Our new patient meetings are a full hour long. We also have a food pantry on-site. If a patient doesn’t know where their next meal is coming from, we can send them away with food. We have a significant amount of patients here who have experienced trauma, and having a non-clinical feel is a good way to get them to open up and share with us.”

This kind of care works in line with their overall mission, which Maggie told us was:

“Our mission is to provide health care for people, not for profit.”

She continued by telling us about how they have grown as a company:

“We started out as a for-profit organization and switched to be a non-profit in 2012. About 46 percent of our patients are uninsured. We will see everyone, regardless of whether they do or don’t have insurance to pay for service. We find out how we can assist them with payment options.”

Building Success Through Word of Mouth

Maggie told us that Dakota Child and Family Clinic has grown thanks to word of mouth, and said that they are, on average, getting about two new patients every day!

There are many businesses out there that are looking to build as impressive a reputation as Dakota Child and Family Clinic has managed to. We asked if Maggie could share any expert advice with these companies. Here’s what she had to say:

“You need to truly know who your patients are.”

Congratulations to Dakota Child and Family Clinic for being a 2019 Top Rated Local award winner, and special thanks to Maggie for taking the time to speak with us!
