Not Your Average Family Doctor
We were excited to learn all about Ellis Medicine and how they have gotten where they are today, so we sat down with Dr. Christopher Murphy.
The first thing we wanted to know was what it is that makes Ellis Medicine stand apart from its competitors. Dr. Murphy told us about his dedication to giving every patient the time and attention they deserve. He said:
“I like to think that I am always all-in on the patients. Giving them all the time that they need means that I am not always going to run on time, but I am going to give every patient my time and attention. I am still enthusiastic.”
Dr. Murphy also told us a bit about his own personal background:
“I am the Associate Program Director for the Ellis Residency. I graduated in ’87, came up here in ’90, and did private practice for 10 years. After 10 years, I felt that my real roots were in areas with a higher need… I was a nurse before med school and a priest before that, so I have come a long way.”
Building Success By Focusing On Others
We asked Dr. Murphy about the overall business mission at Ellis Medicine, and he shared:
“I try to teach residents good history as well as physical skills. [We believe in] seeing the good side of patients, even when they are at their worst. We want to make some difference in the community. Some great nurses and I started to offer Hepatitis C and HIV programs. I think we can make a difference. I like to get out and speak at some of the churches about HIV.”
