Not Your Average Family Doctors
We were excited to learn all about how The Hometown Doctors has been able to build such an outstanding reputation, so we sat down with the doctor, Dr. Theodore Suggs.
The first thing we wanted to know was what it is that makes The Hometown Doctors stand apart from their competitors. In Dr. Suggs’s words, “One of the things we strive for is doing direct primary care. The concern the patients have is the doctor sitting in front of the computer with limited time to ask questions. I’ve tried to give people the correct amount of time to ask questions. It’s become more and more of a problem, as hospital-based practices have taken the lion’s share of the patients. We see patients who don’t have insurance or have very high deductibles, and patients that are dissatisfied with the level of care or cost of care they’ve been getting. We take pride in helping people with depression, anxiety, drug addiction, and sleep problems. We don’t mind having lengthy appointments to really get to the root of what the problem is. We also offer lab work for free here, and have a membership model so we don’t have to charge for labs or physicals.”
When asked about the mission of the Hometown Doctors team, Dr. Suggs said, “We really want to be able to spend ample time with the patient to help them. We don’t have to spend a lot of time wading through insurance paperwork, which frees us up to remain excited about our patient relationships. I get a chance every day to look into a person’s life, and that gives me pause to evaluate my life.”
Building Success Through Reviews
According to Dr. Suggs, the secret to The Hometown Doctors’ success is organic reviews. “Most of our patients leave reviews on their own, but we do encourage patients to leave them. If we don’t get reviews, it’s really hard for someone to evaluate whether or not to come see us,” he told us.
In regards to marketing strategy, Dr. Suggs told us, “We have a person now that is working on search engine optimization. You better have good reviews to get there, too. It’s mainly trying to make sure that we have a presence online for people looking for a new doctor. We’re doing some things on social media, too.”
There are many businesses out there that are looking to build as wonderful a reputation as The Hometown Doctors has managed to. We asked if Dr. Suggs could share any expert advice with these companies. Here’s what he had to say:
“You’ve got to LISTEN to people. You have to listen to what they’re asking for, and you need a certain amount of humility to do that. There has to be a value-added, too. You have to follow through on what you say you’ll do, too. We try to do what we say we’re going to do, which unfortunately, a lot of people in life don’t do.”
