We wanted to learn a little more about this award-winning business and its impressive online reputation, so we took a few minutes to chat with Eric Zimmerman, the owner of Phoenix Freerunning Academy.
The first question we had for Eric was what sets Phoenix Freerunning Academy apart from other fitness centers in Michigan. Here’s his response:
“We are the only gym designed for Parkour and Freerunning in the state of Michigan.”

“We are trying to promote the sport of Parkour — how it can be a safe, healthy and fun lifestyle, and how it feels like playing. [We aim to] unify the Parkour communities within the state of Michigan and simply to promote the sport itself.”

“[We organize] public events where we set up a course and have people explore. It’s really about playing and promoting physical health and emotional health. We have lost the sense that playing is a good thing! We also visit libraries and set up courses to create awareness. In our facility, we have birthday parties and a homeschool program. We also attend Jams throughout the country promoting the sport, which are like conferences for the Parkour community.”
