This dedication, combined with fun, rewarding classes and empowering workouts, has helped ROKbarre earn a reputation of excellence, as well as many positive reviews. Here are just a couple of their stand-out reviews:
“Awesome place. The workout is low impact and the instructors are mindful of each person’s physical limitations. I have a herniated disc in my low back, and one of the instructors approached me before class stating that she planned to do a certain move, and asked if that would bother my back. I was blown away by that. The instructors truly care about you!” – Lea Ayer
“This place is awesome! I’m so glad I went. Mollie made me feel so welcome and she definitely motivated me. I’m so glad this place exists! I’ll definitely be coming back. I feel so energized and I got such a great workout. A total mind body experience which I have been searching for. Thank you!” – Crystal
There are many different fitness centers in Grand Junction, so how has ROKbarre made such an incredible name for themselves with all of the competition? We sat down with Owner and Instructor, Mollie Shepardson, to find out.
What is your secret to such a strong online reputation?
You need to ask for reviews to be successful, so we typically ask for reviews at the completion of every single class. If there is something we can improve on, we always want to be in the know so we can address it.
We appreciate the constructive criticism from our clients along with the positive feedback. I have always said that without clients, we are truly just an empty room with a few weights and a bar.
What makes you different? In other words, if you had one minute to sell somebody on why they should choose you, what would you say?
The thing I always try to remember is that the instructors and the community within a fitness facility make just as much of a difference as the classes themselves. We treat the business as an encouraging community, not just as a workout. Our clients may have zero interaction outside of the facility, but uplifting conversation is common within the building thanks to our welcoming, encouraging community.
We also pride ourselves on keeping exercises low- to no-impact, and creatively adding modifications, depending on fitness journey the client is undertaking. This way, we can help everyone get a great workout, no matter their limitations.
Why do you do what you do? In other words, what is your mission and/or how do you attempt to make the world a better place?
I fell in love with barre as a fitness modality. I tore my ACL and MCL while skiing, and I wasn’t able to participate in my normal athletics and workouts. Barre was a perfect outlet for me because most of the exercises are physical-therapy oriented. It was a low-impact way to keep my stamina going.
When I moved back to Grand Junction to take care of family, I realized there was virtually no barre resources between Aspen and Salt Lake City, and I wanted to fill that gap. My mission is to make sure that all of my clients feel wanted, safe and encouraged — there is never any judgment from myself or my staff. I believe that, if people feel positive about themselves, it will help in all aspects of their lives, including and most importantly in their relationships with other people.
Outside of building a strong online reputation, what else do you do to market and grow your business?
One of the most successful ways we have grown was to partner with another 2018 Top Rated Local winner, Crossroads Fitness. They are running a dual membership program. ROKbarre is essentially a boutique with specialty fitness classes, so it makes sense to offer a discount for people to join up with both studios. It has been a fantastic partnership, because we get to team up with another business that practices what they preach and have similar mindsets.
What advice do you have for other businesses trying to build a strong online reputation and grow their business?
As a small business owner, you must focus on a goal that is greater than money. That might sound cliché, but I have found that to be very true. The money has to be secondary to the passion. Don’t make decisions based on the monetary impact, but instead focus on how it will affect your clients, your staff and your mission.
Congratulations to Mollie and the whole team at ROKbarre for their astounding Rating Score, and for being 2018’s Top Rated Local Fitness Center Award Winner in Colorado!
