We wanted to learn more about this two-time award winner and how they managed to build such an impressive online reputation, so we took a few minutes to talk with John Whisler, a project manager at Hardwood Interiors & Design.
The first thing we wanted to know was what makes Hardwood Interiors & Design a one-of-a-kind home contracting company in West Virginia. Here’s what John had to say:
“We really take pride in what we do. Generally, I tell people, ‘If it’s something we’re going to put in your home, we would also be willing to put it in our own home.’ We’re not going to sell you something we wouldn’t use or we haven’t used ourselves. We wouldn’t recommend products that we haven’t used or done our due diligence on. We really want to turn out a quality product that someone’s going to appreciate and really get their money’s worth in the long haul. We also have a great deal of experience. There’s not much we haven’t seen in our industry, and I don’t think there’s any substitute for experience.”
We also asked John what their mission is at Hardwood Interiors & Design and how they work to make the world a better place. Here’s his response:
“Our mission is just to make sure we’re a reliable source for people when they need something or they have questions. We want to be as honest and upfront as we can with customers. We’ll tell people sometimes what they don’t want to hear but we’re not going to sugar coat something. We want to be honest about the route they want to go.”

“It’s one thing to post photos and videos and other content, but when it comes down to it, a lot of people will go right to those stars. If you have a four-star rating or a three-star rating, I think you need to address why you have the rating you have and if there is room for improvement. In our opinion, there always is… It’s not all about photos and quotes and videos. I definitely think you have to engage with your audience. For me, it’s about making sure our ratings on Google, Houzz and Facebook are good. People look at those when they are looking for a service. I think those reviews speak more than sometimes your photos…’
