Iowa’s Top Rated Local® Award Winner: Historic Park Inn

Top Rated Local® is pleased to announce that Historic Park Inn is a 2019 award winner in Iowa!

If you’re looking for an unforgettable stay in the last Frank Lloyd Wright-designed and built hotel in the world, look no further than Historic Park Inn in Mason City.

Historic Park Inn has received hundreds of reviews with an average rating of 4.87 stars, earning them a fantastic Rating Score™ of 98.71 and a 2019 Top Rated Local award for ranking among the top 100 businesses in all of Iowa!

Here’s just one of the many five-star reviews that got them there:

“This place was fantastic. The look and feel of the hotel made me unreasonably happy. After checking in, I just wandered around and explored the public spaces with my camera, which was really entertaining. Of course, my room was incredibly comfortable, too, and I spent several hours relaxing on the sofa and working at the desk before I checked out. The staff was all very friendly and attentive. I’ll absolutely come back, especially when I’m traveling for business.” – Dustin F.

Not Your Average Hotel

We wanted to learn what makes this award-winning business tick, so we took a few minutes to talk with Scott Borcherding, the Board President Wright on the Park, which is a nonprofit that restored and owns Historic Park Inn.

To kick off our conversation, we asked Scott about what makes Historic Park Inn unique compared to their competition in Iowa. Scott told us:

“It’s just a unique experience that no one else comes close to replicating. Every turn around the corner is unique, and every guest room is unique. We are lucky that we can say we are the only Frank Lloyd Wright hotel in the world that remains.”

Scott went on to tell us that the is a designer with an architectural firm in Mason City. Fifteen years ago, his firm was hired by the non-profit organization, Wright on the Park, to do the restoration on the two Frank Lloyd Wright buildings. The restoration was completed eight years ago, and the hotel was reopened. Around seven years ago, Scott joined Wright on the Park as a committee member and became a board member five years ago.

Prior to Wright on the Park, the building was neglected and not open to the public for many years. In the last eight years, the Historic Park Inn was opened, and they’ve had visitors from over 60 countries and people from all 50 states each year. The restaurant —1910 Grille’ — opened about a year after the hotel.

Building Success by Keeping Their Image Pristine

Scott credits the strong online reputation Historic Park Inn has to their commitment to always working on their image and keeping it as pristine as possible. He added:

“It’s the level of pride that everyone has who either brought the building back to life or who continues to operate the building. We have guests who want to stay in boutique hotels, and then there are those who come to see the Frank Lloyd Wright property and know everything about him.”

There are many business owners looking to grow their business and build their online reputation. Here’s Scott’s expert advice for them:

“Your first impression needs to be your best impression. It’s critical that you make sure that people remember you for the good stuff.”

Congratulations to Historic Park Inn for being a 2019 Top Rated Local award winner, and thank you so much, Scott, for taking the time to speak with us!
