Not Your Average Martial Arts Studio

We were excited to learn all about Connecticut Martial Arts and how they have gotten where they are today, so we sat down with the owner and Master Instructor, Steve Doyon.

The first thing we wanted to know was what it is that makes Connecticut Martial Arts stand apart from its competitors. Connecticut Martial Arts has been around for 27 years and is the only school in the area that provides authentic black belt through an accreditation program. Steve and his wife have trained their whole lives and all over the world to get where they are now. They have an incredible work ethic. Steve said that they live for their school, and always try to uphold and perpetuate the philosophies and traditions of martial arts. He said:

“We have a desire to spread lessons and better people’s lives. When your focus is that pure and you’re that passionate, it really shows.”

We asked Steve if he could tell us a bit about the Connecticut Martial Arts’ business mission. He shared:

“Martial arts training should be a journey to self-perfection of the mind, body, and spirit, and should teach you how to apply those lessons to your daily life. You can apply the lessons and philosophies to daily life when you have the right leadership. It has an impact on success in relationships, in school, and with spouses and siblings.”

Building Success By Serving Others

Connecticut Martial Arts has earned a marvelous reputation, so we were excited to hear about some of the ways they have spread the word about their business. Steve said that they have utilized social media, but that word of mouth is their bread and butter when it comes to getting new business. They have also benefited from online reviews, which Steve says are organic. They have also gained some recognition because Steve’s wife is very involved in the community, where she works with homeless shelters and foundations.

There are many businesses out there that are looking to build as impressive a reputation as Connecticut Martial Arts has managed to. We asked if Steve could share any expert advice with these companies. Here’s what he had to say:

“Be a servant, listen, and give your customers what they need. Everyone is an individual and has different needs, like fitness, social, self-defense, or overcoming demons. Do whatever you can to make them happy and feel like they have a home.”

Congratulations to Connecticut Martial Arts for being a 2019 Top Rated Local award winner, and special thanks to Steve for taking the time to speak with us!
