I have made so many friends, and my confidence has grown to make me more comfortable inside and outside of the class. I appreciate the opportunity to learn and grow! I absolutely recommend this place to everyone!” – K.C.

Not Your Average Martial Arts
We were excited to learn all about Spectrum Martial Arts Academy and how they have gotten where they are today, so we sat down with Raymond Miller, who co-owns the company with his brother, Seth Miller.
The first thing we wanted to know was what it is that makes Spectrum Martial Arts Academy stand apart from its competitors. Raymond said that they are the only Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu school in the area and that they are very happy to be able to provide this service to the community.
“The main thing that makes us different is that my brother and I, the people who own the academy, are actually educators. We have degrees in education, so we not only know martial arts, but we also know how to run a classroom. I think that’s very comforting for parents. Parents see that, and they understand that their kids are going to be in a really safe environment, an environment that can really build them up, not just physically as martial artists, but also mentally and emotionally as well. On top of the coaching aspects that we do, we’re really happy to provide that to our parents.”
Building Success, Online And Off
Spectrum Martial Arts Academy has earned a fantastic reputation, so we asked Raymond how they have managed to grow their business and get such great reviews. Raymond said that it starts with great customer service and by offering the best value they can.
In addition to building the kind of online reputation that any small business would envy, Spectrum Martial Arts Academy has spread the word about who they are and what they do by providing their customers with useful content on their YouTube channel. They sell great gear and merchandise that their clients wear around the community. Raymond said that the number one thing, offline, that has helped them to grow has been word of mouth.
There are many businesses out there that are looking to build as impressive a reputation as Spectrum Martial Arts Academy has managed to. We asked if Raymond could share any expert advice with these companies. Here’s what he had to say:
“When it comes to an online presence, one of the most important things you can do is really try to brand yourself and really have something that people relate to you. Whether that’s a logo, or a motto like we have, [it’s important to] really find a way to brand yourself and have a cohesive style and aesthetic. I think too often, especially with martial arts schools, they use prepackaged advertising material. They use salient, very outdated aesthetics. I think living in the 2020s, [you need to make] sure that you’re really pushing boundaries and trying to be modern and having a great, super, understandable aesthetic is probably one of the most important things. Really try to brand yourself and have something unique that sets you apart from your competition.”
Congratulations to Spectrum Martial Arts Academy for being a 2019 Top Rated Local award winner, and special thanks to Raymond for taking the time to speak with us!
