We wanted to learn all about Sowelo Massage Therapy and its impressive online reputation, so we took a few minutes to talk with the owner, Lauren Donahue.
The first question we had for Lauren was what is it that sets Sowelo Massage Therapy apart from their competition in Pennsylvania. Here’s Lauren’s response:
“I worked originally as a medical technician in many different fields. When I decided to go to massage school, all that knowledge helped to propel me. Dealing with social anxiety as a teenager allows me to be empathetic, and in combination with western medicine, eastern medicine, like massage, can go beyond the physical. I don’t stick real close to the clock, and I even give them a cup of tea to make them feel more comfortable before or after. I’m also always reading new studies. I work with my patients to create a treatment plan that is measurable. I’m also able to use my intuition to create a custom treatment plan. My clients tell me they can tell through my touch that I really love what I do, and they tell me that makes such a difference. I give every single session 110 percent, and I work a limited schedule — about five hours — so that I don’t burn out and can provide the best session.”
We also wanted to know what their mission is at Sowelo Massage Therapy and how they work to make the world a better place. Here’s what Lauren had to say:
“I live across the street from Rivers Edge [nursing home], and I go over there for an hour, often to work with the seniors. They have so many stories to tell, and they are limited on who they can talk to. Sometimes, I just provide them with a gentle hand on the shoulder and someone to talk to. I also teach parents how to massage their children and how to teach them about what is safe touch and what is appropriate, and I teach mothers how to massage their infants to increase their immune system and bond with them.”
