“We came to Bend for the first time for a wedding, and this place was gorgeous. The location is perfect, right by the lovely Drake Park, and walking there even in 90-degree heat was comfortable because of the lovely breeze and all the wonderful shade trees. We met another couple at the happy hour with complimentary wine and beer, and ended up walking a few blocks to the downtown area for a delicious meal. The owner and her staff made the stay very pleasant and easy. We will definitely be going back!”

Sandy Griffin, the owner of Lara House, took some time to speak with us about her business’ impressive online reputation.
We wanted to know what it really is that makes Lara House different from other bed and breakfasts. “Location! [We are] a block and a half to downtown Bend. [We are the] closest lodging in town, and also across the street from a park and walking distance from everything. This is also a home built in 1910, so this is a very unique place to stay with a lot of history,” she said. “We offer cookies, a local wine and beer hour, and a full, multi-course breakfast. We pride ourselves on giving a lot to our guests, all the little extras. [You get] more than just a room.”
Working Hard and Building Upon Success
So, what’s the secret behind Lara House’s success? Sandy says,“[Our success was] built up over time from previous owners. We purchased from them six years ago and have continued to maintain and build upon the foundation they built.”
Sandy has some wisdom to pass on to those trying to build their online reputation. It goes as follows:
“Just keep at it and keep working. Social media helps, but it takes daily posting and creating a lot of content. It can be a challenge sometimes. Getting the name out there continually is how people can make the business work.”
