We had a chance to speak with owner-operator, Jeff Mokol, about his business’ stellar online reputation. Here’s what he thought we should know:
What is your secret to such a strong online reputation?
Being ethical. We keep our prices fair. If there are issues, like rats and raccoons breaking into a house, we aren’t going to hide anything. We know how important it is to educate our customers. Some folks can’t afford to have a lot of maintenance done, and in those cases, we teach them how to do as much as possible themselves. We’ve been in business going on 12 years, and we know that YouTube is a major competitor since people can search and find ways to do these things themselves. We want to save our customers the time and make sure it gets done right.
What makes you different? In other words, if you had one minute to sell somebody on why they should choose you, what would you say?
We’re completely humane. Anything the state allows us to relocate, we relocate. We never use any poison and only use organic products. Also, unlike 99 percent of pest control options, we’re not a contract-style company. We work hard to break the mold by being customer-centric.
Why do you do what you do? In other words, what is your mission and/or how do you attempt to make the world a better place?
I’m really passionate about animals. After getting out of the Army in 2004, I joined the Denver Police Department. After seeing the stress it caused my family, I decided to make the switch to pest control. Often, animals need a helping hand — that’s what I want to be. I never want to poison the animals; I want to benefit both them and our customers.
Outside of building a strong online reputation, what else do you do to market and grow your business?
We do a lot of branding. I feel strongly that it is the most important aspect of our business. The logo is cute and catchy, like something a child would point out to their parent. The goal for us is to be nationwide.
What advice do you have for other businesses trying to build a strong online reputation and grow their business?
Stay steady. Don’t give up and make sure you have a backbone. Always be doing some sort of advertising. Give yourself and your business time and provide excellent service.
