Every business would love to say that they get the kind of reviews that Tera’s Pet Grooming has earned, so we sat down with Owner, Tera Orton, to find out how they did it. Here’s what she thought we should know:
What is your secret to such a strong online reputation?
Honestly, we’ve managed to build a strong online reputation just by doing what’s right. In fact, that’s why I started the business. I’ve worked in corporate salons in the past, and the environment they provided just wasn’t right for pet parents or the pets themselves. I wanted to establish a business focused on building a good rapport with clients, and on developing good habits.
What makes you different? In other words, if you had one minute to sell somebody on why they should choose you, what would you say?
We never use any kennels or cages; we are a 100-percent cage-free salon. We also only groom one dog at a time, and dogs are only with us for an hour and a half. Additionally, the environment we’ve created is more home-like than shop-like. When a pet and a pet parent walk in, it feels like they’re walking into a living room!
Why do you do what you do? In other words, what is your mission and/or how do you attempt to make the world a better place?
I love animals as if they were my own children, and we do what we do because it just feels right. When I started this business, I did so with the goal of making every dog happy and excited. At the end of the day, we work hard so that we can provide the best possible care for our clients’ animals.
Outside of building a strong online reputation, what else do you do to market and grow your business?
We haven’t done any advertising in two years; all of our business comes from word-of-mouth referrals and online reviews on Yelp, Google and other review sites, which we’ve earned thanks to the good service we provide. We’ve also participated in local events.
What advice do you have for other businesses trying to build a strong online reputation and grow their business?
Take the time to do it right for your clients. It’s important to be real and to give your absolute best to each and every client. When you are focused on how to provide the best care instead of just on your finances, it leads to excellent service
