North Carolina’s Top Rated Local® Photographers Award Winner: Azul Photography

Top Rated Local® is pleased to announce that Azul Photography is a two-time 2019 award in North Carolina!

If you’re looking for a photographer in Raleigh who can help you capture the moment, look no further than Azul Photography.

Azul Photography has received dozens of reviews on five verified sites with an average rating of 4.97 stars, earning them an outstanding Rating Score™ of 99.67 and two 2019 Top Rated Local awards for ranking among the top 100 businesses and the top 10 photographers in all of North Carolina!

Here’s just one of their many five-star reviews:

“Chris absolutely exceeded my expectations when taking our engagement photos! Not only were the pictures amazing, but Chris and Kathleen were so sweet and were quick to answer any questions I had. I would highly recommend Azul photography if you want great quality pictures from a team who really cares about what they’re doing. I could not be any happier!” – Rebekah K.

Not Your Average Photographer

Christobal Perez, who co-owns Azul Photography with his wife, Kathleen, generously gave us a few minutes of his time to tell us about his business’ impressive online reputation.

The first question we had for Christobal was what is it that sets Azul Photography apart from their competition in North Carolina. Here’s his response:

“We have a niche in the wedding community. We have always stayed true to who we are — photojournalists. When the wedding photojournalist trend came up about 10 years ago, we were on the cutting edge, and we’ve stuck with it. You have to stay true to what you do to continue to be successful. Most importantly, we really care about our people and our craft!”

Christobal went on to add:

“I’ve been nominated for a few Pulitzer Prizes over the years, and have been a finalist. Kathleen has also covered the ACC basketball tournament! Kathleen has been the driving force behind starting the business. Without her, we would not be able to create legacies for couples.”

We also wanted to know what their mission is at Azul Photography and how they work to make the world a better place. Here’s what Chistobal had to say:

“I am a photojournalist who formerly worked at newspapers. As a journalist, you are the eyes for the readers. Our purpose here is to be the eyes for the people that aren’t here yet; children, great-great-grandchildren and anyone else who will be seeing the documentation of the wedding. It really drives us to see differently and tell the story of who they are as the couple, family or group. We’re not trying to hit the ‘magazine brides’ who are looking for a certain product. We’re all about the moment. Images need to have a connection with the people, not just be pretty. We want people in the future to understand the context of the image.”

Christobal added:

“I also coach high school baseball in the area. I help kids realize what they’re doing right and help them change to a growth-based mindset. I want them to recognize their talents and how to achieve them.”

Building Success by Asking for Reviews

Chistobal attributes Azul Photography’s strong online reputation to their commitment to asking for reviews:

“We ask them if they could leave us a review. We greatly appreciate it when they choose to do that. It helps our business grow and helps our clients and potential clients know that we do our best to take care of them. We’ve run into situations when couples have lost their wedding photos from 10 years ago, and we still have them. We care about our clients and make sure that we take care of them.”

When we asked Christobal how Azul Photography has grown outside of building a powerful online reputation, he said:

“We have what we call the triangle of truth. You have to know your business area. You have to have communications and networking skills. You have to know your craft well. If you don’t have all three of those locked tight, you won’t last long. We have built a lot of relationships with vendors and bridal shows, and that keeps us relevant in the community. I’m also slowly getting into video blogging to let people know why and how we’ve been around for so long.”

Christobal had this advice for the many other business owners out there:

“If you aren’t strong in any of the triangle areas, get some help! If you’re not really good at something, you need to spend 15 minutes a day on improving. Just 15 minutes can make a huge difference. You can find some great information, and that 15-minute dedication can turn into an hour or two to help you grow.”

Congratulations to the team at Azul Photography for being a 2019 Top Rated Local award winner, and thank you so much, Christobal, for taking the time to speak with us!
