Not every photographer is able to gain such a fabulous online reputation, so it stands to reason that Photography by Jacquelynn must be doing something different. Jacquelynn took a moment to speak with us about her business’ online reputation and success. When we asked her why she does what she does, she said, “I’m really trying to capture the clients legacy. It’s about revisiting the moment years and years down the road. Not tomorrow, not a week from now. [I ask myself] what is the legacy, photographically, that they are going to leave behind? Our world is so digital, everything is disposable. I want to give them something they can value for years to come and pass down to their children by [capturing] these moments that are once in a lifetime. It’s really the gift of memory.”
Building Success Through Business-Sense and Passion
We wanted to know what exactly made Photography by Jacquelynn’s online reputation so good, so we asked what advice she had for other businesses looking to improve theirs. Here’s what she told us:
“I feel like, primarily, treating your photography business as a business first is the key to success. So many photographers prefer the creative [aspect of the business] and they put all their energy into [that], but none into the building of the business (into the marketing and business plan) and it doesn’t work because there is no guide to profit, no bottom line. If you can’t do it, outsource it…Set expectations, very clear expectations. When I’ve failed at something, it was because I failed to communicate to the client what was actually going on and they didn’t understand. Set the expectations, be the expert.”
