Once Upon a Thyme offers a dining experience like no other. It’s a cozy, eclectic restaurant that not only offers high-quality food, but also a shopping area. When Joy Templeton, the owner of Once Upon a Thyme, first started out, she was able to do it all on her own. But this fantastic restaurant has grown so much that she’s had to hire a number of truly great people to keep up.

Once Upon a Thyme’s service goes far beyond the restaurant itself. Once Upon a Thyme also does catering for events of up to 60 people, and Joy teaches cooking classes, as well.

We asked Joy why they do what they do at Once Upon a Thyme and how they work to make the world a better place. Here’s what she had to say:

“It all stems from the mantra, ‘you are what you eat.’ We can control many diseases and illnesses by what we put into our bodies, and we love making people feel good with our food.”

Building Success Through Consistent, Clean Ingredients

Joy credits Once Upon a Thyme’s strong online reputation to her commitment to creating the best dishes for her customers by using consistent, clean ingredients. While most restaurants offer their customers a lot of from-frozen meals, Once Upon a Time makes everything from scratch. It’s a labor of love, but it has paid off in a powerful online reputation and lots of word-of-mouth from her satisfied customers.

Apart from a solid online reputation and word of mouth, Joy gets her restaurant’s name out there by being active on Facebook and having a Google listing. She’s also worked with a couple of different companies and advertised in a few places.

We asked Joy what advice she has for other business owners looking to grow their business and build their online reputation. Here are her words of wisdom:

“Start small and grow with your business. Don’t look for instant gratification.”
