We took a few minutes to talk with Jeff Stull, a partner at Roy’s Barber Shop, to learn a little more about the business and how they managed to build such an impressive online reputation.
The first thing we wanted to know was what sets Roy’s Barber Shop apart from the many other barber shops in New Jersey. Here’s what Jeff had to say:
“I think we spend a good amount of time with our customers prior to the haircut to make sure they get exactly what they are looking for.”
We also asked Jeff what their mission is at Roy’s Barber Shop and how they work to make the world a better place. Here’s his response:
“We do a lot of volunteer work. When the older customers have a hard time getting here for a haircut, we go out to them to make their lives a little bit easier. We do this a lot for our WWII veterans as well. We like to take care of our vets.”
Building Success by Being There for Their Clients
Jeff credits Roy’s Barber Shop’s strong online reputation to their commitment to being there for their clients when they say they will:
“Being here in the shop is so important. If you say that you are going to be here for 10 hours, be here for 10 hours. I think it’s important for the public to see you here all the time.”

“We get business primarily through word of mouth because of how we take care of our customers. We don’t really do anything for advertising, nor do we feel that we really need to…”

“Have patience with success. Nothing good happens overnight. There was actually a barbershop that opened up about nine months ago right in our neighborhood. After a week in business, they took a week off already. They were not patient and did not succeed.”
