Not Your Average Self Storage Center
We were excited to learn all about Skyline Self Storage and how they have gotten where they are today, so we sat down with the manager, Linda Reitsma.
The first thing we wanted to know was what it is that makes Skyline Self Storage stand apart from its competitors. Linda said that people are often surprised by how professionally run the business is. They also focus on their security. Linda told us that she is a resident manager, meaning she and her family live on site. There are also two dogs on-site that they frequently take on walks around the units, which means that they often have eyes on the space. Linda said:
“We have high-tech cameras and a security gate that we actually close every evening (only our customers and law enforcement/fire department have access). I think we are the only store that has a gate, cameras AND a resident manager which could account for the fact that we have no security issues. Besides professionalism, the security factor is probably our biggest selling point.”
When we asked Linda about the Skyline Self Storage business mission or how they work to make the world a better place, she said:
“We’re here to help. That’s our mission. So, moving, being one of the most stressful things that people can be going through, means we need to be helpful. Moving in and of itself is stressful and oftentimes moving is coupled with some sort of stressful event. We need to be here to alleviate as much stress as we can.”
Building Success, Online And Off
In addition to building the kind of online reputation that any small business would envy, Skyline Self Storage has spread the word about who they are and what they do by making sure someone is always there to answer the phone. They also make sure to keep up with emails and website inquiries. Linda said that they also utilize social media, like Facebook, where they do giveaways. One of the other ways they have gotten their name out is through their wrapped vehicles. Since they give their customers free use of a moving truck, two of their trucks are frequently out and about, as is their little red smart car!

“Spend the time it takes to find good people to work in the office and answer the phone. All it takes is someone who is friendly, professional, articulate, and who has a big heart. We all know that a negative interaction gets a lot more online attention.”
