Not Your Average Senior Living Community
Canton Christian Home is a non-profit continuing care facility that offers Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Skilled Nursing Care and that has been serving Canton for 44 years. We were excited to learn all about Canton Christian Home and how they have gotten where they are today, so we sat down with the Director of Community Relations, Janet Whitlatch.
The first thing we wanted to know was what it is that makes Canton Christian Home stand apart from its competitors. As a non-profit, the money they earn goes directly to resident care. They have focused some of those funds into offering their residents amazing, made-from-scratch food, as well as educational programs!
Janet went on to tell us about how their excellent management team has helped to lead them to where they are today:
“We have had really good management throughout the years. They tell you to do the right thing for the residents as opposed to doing the right thing for Canton Christian Home… We don’t send people away if they run out of money; we find a way to take care of them.”
Canton Christian Home has a long history of care and positive feedback from families and people who have lived here. Janet shared this touching anecdote about some of that feedback:
“I had one of our residents recently tell me that they have visited lots of retirement communities and that, while they were all friendly, Canton Christian Home has a genuine warmth that comes from both the residents and staff that goes beyond just being friendly.”
We wanted to know more about the Canton Christian Home business mission. Janet said:
“Our mission is to empower seniors to live life fully, continuing to impact their world and enjoy the endless adventure of the Christian life.”
Building Success, Online and Off
Canton Christian Home has earned a remarkable reputation, so we wanted to know more about what they have done to get their name out and grow their business. Janet told us that they keep in touch with their community by posting pictures and events to their Facebook page. While most of their business comes from referrals, they have also recognized the benefit of a great online review. Janet said that she gives cards to residents and families with directions about how to leave a review.
There are many businesses out there that are looking to build as impressive a reputation as Canton Christian Home has managed to. We asked if Janet could share any expert advice with these companies. Here’s what she had to say:
“You’ve got to have an online presence. You have to actively seek reviews. You have to know your potential clients and if what you are offering is a match. Customer service and treating people right is extremely key.”
