Legacy Dermatology has managed to build the kind of reputation any business owner would envy, and to learn a little more about that reputation and this one-of-a-kind business, we sat down with Office Manager Natalie Heaton.
The first thing we wanted to know was what makes Legacy Dermatology unique compared to the many other dermatology clinics in Utah. Natalie told us:
“We came to Bountiful because we wanted to raise our family here and be part of the community. We built our business to be much like many of the other small businesses here in Bountiful. We want our patients to feel part of our Legacy family. We want them to feel like they know Dr. Heaton personally and that he knows them personally. We want our office to have the same small-town feel that the rest of Bountiful has. …I think that makes us stand out.”
When we asked what the secret is to such a solid online reputation at Legacy Dermatology, Natalie pointed to the fact that, from the beginning to the end, they aim to provide their patients with a great experience in the office:
“From the way our front staff greets each patient to how our medical assistants care for each patient and how our doctor and nurse practitioner treats each patient, we make sure it is consistent. Each appointment is all about the patient and about making sure their needs are met and that they feel that they’ve had a great experience from start to finish. At the end of each appointment, we encourage patients, if they felt like they had a great experience, to go online and leave us a review. We’re not pushing them, but asking them to share their experience. It seems like when patients leave happy, most are willing to run right home and leave a review, or they’ll sit down and just do it here in our office on their phones.”
Making the World a Better Place Through Community Involvement
We also wanted to know what their mission is at Legacy Dermatology and how they work to make the world a better place. Natalie told us that they try to get involved in local schools by making donations to their programs to ensure they’re supported. She added:
“We offer quarterly free skin cancer screenings. We’ve done many free skin cancer treatments at our local farmer’s market. It gives an opportunity for locals to get to know Dr. Heaton and for us to get to know people in town. Dr. Heaton personally lectures at our senior centers to educate on skin cancer. We try to make a presence that makes a difference and to serve the members of the community.”

“Instead of treating our business like another medical office, we treat it more like a small business. …We support other local small businesses and get to know the owners of those businesses. We support everyone around town and hope they’ll support us back.”

“Make sure that your main focus is not about business; your focus should always be about your patient or your customer. No matter what, it’s all about them. Make sure that each person who comes through our doors feels like their needs have been met and that they feel like they were treated respectfully and kindly. I think when you get lost in the technicalities of business, you forget who you are serving…”
