We were excited to catch up with Squeaky Clean Window Cleaning and hear about how the last year has gone for them, so we sat down with the owner, John Morales.
John started off by telling us a bit about their business and their team, as well as what makes them stand out compared to others in the industry. He said that the training that their staff receives is one of the things that really sets them apart. New employees work directly with him for at least a month before working on their own. It is vital that every team member is able to work to the company’s standards.
When it comes to their accomplishments over the last year, John shared:
“Growth is one of our biggest accomplishments. We just keep plugging away and growing via word of mouth. One of our goals is to provide enough work that each of our employees can make a living wage of $40,000 a year.”
Making It As A Small Business
It takes a lot of courage and even more hard work to make it as a small business in today’s world. We asked John what has been the most rewarding part of being a small business, like Squeaky Clean Window Cleaning. He said:
“The most rewarding thing is knowing that we are doing a quality job and earning a customer’s future business. I’d like to say that it’s being my own boss, but my wife, Desiree, is my boss!”
John also told us about the biggest lessons they have learned so far as a business. He said that there is quite a steep learning curve and that he and Desiree had to teach themselves the ins and outs of small business ownership, like marketing and accounting.
There are many businesses out there that are looking to build as impressive a reputation as Squeaky Clean Window Cleaning has managed to. We asked if John could share any expert advice with these companies. Here’s what he had to say:
“The first couple of months can be tough. Don’t get discouraged, and don’t give up. Your best bet early on is not to invest in ads, but rather to do a top-notch job and to ask for work through word-of-mouth referrals.”
We asked John what’s next for this multi-award winning company, and he said that he wants to focus on staying busy year-round, keeping his staff paid, hiring more employees, and ideally, opening up a brick and mortar storefront.
John also wanted to make sure to give a special thanks to his mentor, Mario Owens, who got them started in the business, and to Desiree Morales, his wife and co-owner of Squeaky Clean Window Cleaning.
