We were excited to learn all about Headlines Barber Shop and how they have gotten where they are today, so we sat down with Christian Perez, who co-owns the company.

The first thing we wanted to know was what it is that makes Headlines Barber Shop stand apart from its competitors. Christian told us about their friendly and welcoming atmosphere, saying:

“One of the main things with our guys is that anybody who sits up front, anybody who sits in our barbershop or has a chair in our barbershop, has to greet every client as if they’re their own and they have to say goodbye to every client as well. In a lot of barbershops, you walk in and you don’t even get greeted. It’s kind of unwelcoming, so I think that’s one thing that makes us unique.”

Christian also told us about some of the ways they make things more streamlined and easier for their customers to use, saying:

“Our online booking makes it super easy for the customer. A lot of barbershops rent chairs to barbers and that’s their space that they rent and they handle the business within, but we have more of a team atmosphere… It feels like they’re part of a team. It’s okay, you can sit in anybody’s chair and it’s all good.”

They have an upcoming charitable event where each of their seven locations will be reaching out to the local middle school or high school to provide free haircuts. All of the money that is donated at those events will be given to the school’s band program! In the past, they have fed a local high school team for an entire season, or donated Gatorade to a team for their season.

“We’re pretty well entrenched in the community and like to give back. We’re a community barber shop, so our community supports us and we like to support them.”

“I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my business partners, Chris Bossio, Daniel Santana and Kris Hemch, because I couldn’t do it without them. It started out with three of us, and we like to promote from within. Kris was one of our barbers, but he quickly ascended and we identified that this kid is special. He’s a leader. We put him in charge of managing our third location and we quickly realized that this guy is really special. He opened up or helped us launch our fourth, fifth, and sixth stores. After he managed it there, we said, listen, this kid is special. We need to reward him, it only makes sense, so, now he is an owner as well.”

That, to us, is just as good as a tip because that will pay dividends to us, tenfold over the years.’ We’re not pushing them but asking and emphasizing the importance… Just let people know how much it helps us, and they will feel compelled, especially if they like you. They want to help you, and if you stress to them the importance of helping you by leaving reviews, nine times out of 10, it’s easy. They’ll always want to help out and leave a good review.”

The first question we had for Todd was what makes The Barber Todd unique compared to their competition in Vermont. Todd pointed to his 33 years of experience and his vision. He also shared a little advice that his father gave him when he first started training Todd at 16 years old:

“I can teach you 1,000 different cutting techniques and styles, but if you don’t know the proper haircut for the person that’s in your chair, then it doesn’t matter how much you learn.”

When Todd asked how, his father said:

“You have to trust your vision. Look at someone; look at their face; look at their head; look at their lifestyle; look at their shoulders…”

We also asked Todd about The Barber Todd’s mission and how he works to make the world a better place. Todd told us:

“What makes me feel really good about my job is, a lot of times in the course of the day, when I’m done with a haircut, the client tells me that they feel better — not that they look better but that they feel better. To me, that’s one of the greatest compliments I could ever get from a customer. Haircuts grow out. They change. All kinds of things happen. But if I can make someone feel better, they might interact with the community better, and they might interact with their partner or children better because they feel better about themselves. I feel that’s one of my major contributions to the community.”

When we asked Todd what their secret is to such a strong online reputation at The Barber Todd, he said:

“I just simply give my customers the service that they want. A lot of people come in and say, ‘I’ve been to this barber shop or this hair salon, and when I tell them what I want, the stylist does whatever they want to do and not what is requested.’ I simply give people what they ask for. That’s really it.”

We were excited to learn all about Kevin’s Barber Shop and how they have gotten where they are today, so we sat down with the owner, Kevin James.

The first thing we wanted to know was what it is that makes Kevin’s Barber Shop stand apart from its competitors. Kevin said that, in addition to treating their customers like family, they also offer consistency and dependability. He shared:

“Basically, we live by the Golden Rule: do unto others as you’d have them do unto you.’”
