Top Rated Local® Award Winner: The Chimney Doctor

Top Rated Local® is pleased to announce that The Chimney Doctor, serving Grand Junction and the Western Slope of Colorado, is an award winner for their excellent Rating Score™.  Here’s how they build their exemplary reputation.

Is it possible to be fascinated by chimneys?

The answer is yes if you’re Dan Freeman, owner of The Chimney Doctor, CSIA & NFI certified chimney service business in Grand Junction, CO.  His passion translates into incredible service and an unsurpassed Rating Score™ of 100.    Safe to say they’re at the top of list in their area when it comes to reputation.

Dan graciously took a few moments from his busy schedule to give us some tips on how to earn such great reviews.

What is your secret to such a strong online reputation?

Customers are always pleased with the service we have done, and we simply ask them to leave a review while we’re on site. We also do a lot of checking in on customers to make sure everything was satisfactory.

What makes you different? In other words, if you had 1 minute to sell somebody on why they should choose you, what would you say?

Putting things up people want to see. We want to show people what we do. There’s a lot of information on our site. We have a lot of information for customers to make research easier and to build trust. Customers have a feel for who we are.

Why do you do what you do? In other words, what is your mission and/or how do you attempt to make the world a better place?

I worked for another chimney company for a number of years, then got the chance to buy another company. The guy who owned it passed away and his wife sold me his equipment. It’s been fascinatingly interesting. There are a lot of things about chimneys that people just don’t know about. I love the education about it!

Outside of building a strong online reputation, what else do you do to market and grow your business?

We try to be good with following up with leads and customers. We have our trucks wrapped and are very identifiable. Really other than the online presence and phone books we don’t do much because we’re so busy! We also really try to follow up with past customers to get repeat business.

What advice do you have for other businesses trying to build a strong online reputation and grow their business?

Start small, provide high-quality service, and when customers are pleased with your work simply ask them to leave a review! Take it a bite at a time and provide good service. If the service is great, the reviews will follow.

Key Takeaways

There are two things you can’t beat when it comes to developing a positive reputation.  The Chimney Doctor does both.

First, they’re passionate about their work and how they help their clients.  Too many people let themselves get bored with their careers, losing site of the fascinating, subtle ways things interconnect to make each day unique.  Dan Freeman doesn’t let this happen to him, and you can bet it shows in how he talks to people and approaches his work.

The second is that they communicate.  When you want customer service to lead to customer retention,  the words “follow-up” are worth their weight in platinum.  Not only does it show you care about how your work turned out, it creates a touch point where you can ask for a review.

The Chimney Doctor is smart and also asks at the end of a job, so they’re really covering it.  It is, of course, easier to ask when you know the work was solid and the customer is smiling.

Here’s to cozy fires and safe chimneys on the Western Slope!
