Most people think of insurance policies as something we NEED, rather than something we WANT and, toping that, we hope against hope that we’ll never need to file a claim. So just the idea of spending hard earned dollars on something we hope we’ll never need, can rank somewhere between paying taxes and a trip to the dentist. Nothing, however, could be further from reality when talking with Robert Murphy at Better Flood Insurance. Not only is Mr. Murphy extraordinarily knowledgable about floods and flood insurance, insofar as what increases and lowers risks and, in turn, raises and lowers premiums as well as what is and is not necessary when it comes to coverage. He’s equally knowledgable about structural changes which can be made to a property in anticipation of a flood that can help mitigate damages and, in some cases, even lower premiums. It’s readily apparent that Mr. Murphys goal is not selling insurance just for the sake of selling insurance but rather, that his #1 goal is to keep homes and families safe in the unforeseen event of a disaster and should the worst ever happen, to make sure they’ll be able to recover. Even though I’ve never met Mr. Murphy in person and may never have the pleasure, I have a good sense, just from having spoken with him several times on the phone that, in the face of a disaster, I’d have an extremely knowledgable and exceptionally capable advocate in my corner, which is so much more than a flood insurance policy tucked away in a waterproof container.
