As Life Coaches go, which includes Guidance and Mentoring, I consider myself a generalist, meaning, I can deal with a wide variety of issues regardless of their nature. There are a few areas I don?t get into simply because I am not qualified by virtue of training or experience. This would apply to issues like financial coaching, coaching for people whose issues are religious in nature, and ?Executive Suite? issues where there is a fair amount of politics involved. Aside from those, my 60 years of life experience, 40 of which have been as a therapist and life coach, enable me to take on and be successful with a wide range of personal, relational and/or workplace situations.
I have coached professionals, people from age 15 to 70, as well as people from a number of countries and cultures. What I?ve found consistently over the years is that the key to success in dealing with people?s challenges doesn?t usually lie in the problem?s nature, complexity or severity but rather in whether the courage they bring to solving the issue exceeds the level of fear they bring. The other key to success is a function of whether the life coach has been successful himself in dealing with his own life issues to the extent that he has learned the necessary lessons and therefore has something of value to offer his clients. This last key is my strength as a mentor.
