I am SO HAPPY to have discovered S.I.G.N. Academy! I requested a mentor to assess my interpreting skills and pinpoint exactly what improvements were needed, while also being a supportive cheerleader. The mentor I was placed with was a dream come true! She was a knowledgeable and amazing interpreter who was able to mentor with the direct feedback I was looking for, as well as positive encouragement. By the end of our time together, not only did my interpreting improve, but also my ability to look at the good in my work. If you are trying to improve your skills and need a mentor to believe in you and the amazing work we do as interpreters, then I highly recommend S.I.G.N. Academy!

I attended a Mentoring workshop through Sign Academy and came away with a ton of new ideas and resources for improving my mentoring skills. It was very beneficial! I highly recommend Sign Academy!

This is a great place to learn about Deaf culture as well as learn American Sign Language. You cannot learn one without the other and my mentor Sander does a great job of combining the two in fun and exciting ways! Like anything in life you get out of it what you put into it so you must practice what you learn from your mentor and ask questions when you don't understand. Sander is great with answering all of my questions and being patient and explaining it in as many different ways as needed until I understand. I'm encouraged and supported in my efforts to immerse myself in the Deaf community through online groups as well as in person groups when available. This program has been so wonderful that when I was laid off of work July 2021, I felt ready and prepared to go to college and study Deaf culture and American Sign Language. I started my first semester of college to get my AA degree January 31st 2022 and it is going wonderfully and I am still doing this program as well.

When my 10 year old daughter came to me with the idea of learning ASL, I wasn’t sure where to start. I am so glad we found Sign Academy. She has been taking lessons with Sander for 1.5 years and I can’t say enough about Sander and the Sign Academy program. He is so great with her and the flexibly of the lessons allows her to play sports and nurture her other interests, all while giving her the skills to grow. She has learned so much and looks forward to her zoom lessons every week. We absolutely LOVE what this program has done for her- giving her skills to last a lifetime!!

My mentor is AMAZING. I cannot this organization enough. I came into this mentorship with no expectations and left with, what I consider, a new friend and colleague to bounce ideas off of. I signed up for Sign Academy a month and a half before my NIC with no direction on how to improve. My mentor was honest, but kind. She did not sugar coat anything, and she was willing to go above and beyond to change my curriculum depending on what she noticed from my work. Honestly, wholeheartedly, I don't think I would have the confidence I have now without my mentor and Sign Academy. If I could give this more than 5 stars, I would!

I have a public facing volunteer job as an Aquarium Educator. I thought that learning a language would help in my position and I landed on ASL. This is, by far, one of the best things I have ever done. While I am only 6 months into my lessons, my teacher at the Sign Academy is the very best! When I signed up they were very accommodating of my schedule, and while I try not to change things, I have been able to reschedule lessons when needed. My daughter has been a student for years, which is where I found them. She is an advanced student and was placed with an appropriate teacher. I was a total beginner and also found the best fit for me. This is a wonderful program, I am so happy I found the Sign Academy!
