Where do we begin. Our nightmare started when we hired Botanists of the Valley (BOV) and paid well over 6 figures to have our landscaping completed. We trusted them with our property as they claim to be botanists and palm tree experts. We had issues with our project from the very start. We are not ones to write bad reviews, but we honestly hope that nobody else goes through what we have with this company. They do not stand behind their work or the problems created by their errors. The trees and plants we picked for our design had to be picked multiple times at the nursery because they lost the list. We had to go back to the nursery (which was not close to our home) to pick them again. The trees that arrived were probably the worst and most discounted trees the nursery had. They had to be replaced. We invested a lot of money into date palms, which Luis supported and asked us to drive to Mecca to pick out the palms. We drove 5 hours to a palm tree farm to pick out very healthy palms so that BOV could arrange the schedule for planting. In fact, BOV made a drone video of our backyard and "Making palm trees fly" which they heavily use as marketing to advertise their expertise in palm tree planting. In addition to the cost of the palms, they charged us $1600 per palm to plant them and an extra $5000 for the crane rental to put them in. Luis was so focused on the drone video for advertising future jobs that attention to detail was severely missed in the planting process. Within two weeks, one of the palms tipped over from rain because of the large cavities under the tree (this was the first tree to die). The drippers were installed in tubes that prevented them from every watering the root ball. BOV was 100% in charge of the watering system and we trusted their expertise for the schedule and follow-up care with the trees. Our trees showed signs of concern about 3-4 weeks after they were planted. We found large cavities around the root ball and could see down into the holes where the roots were exposed. We expressed concern that they were dying and were assured it was shock from planting. A few more weeks went by, and we again reached out as our trees were turning brown. Again, we were told it was shock from planting. When we looked at the app, we realized the trees had not been getting watered at all for the entire month after they were planted. When the water was finally turned on, it was only going in the tubes and not on the root ball. Multiple texts were sent about our concern including images of the trees. We hired two outside arborists to assess the situation in hopes to save the trees, only to find out that the way they were installed was wrong. End result? Luis doesn't feel it is his issue. We have since sought legal counsel to attempt to get a portion of the large expense we paid refunded for the very bad planting job. We are insulted that they have claimed we were "trying to save a buck" on a job that cost over 6 figures. You can see the video of the trees going in. They were incredibly large and healthy and in great condition when they arrived to be planted. You can see the result after months of correspondence. This is what we were left with (which BOV's attorney claims is acceptable and that the trees are in fact alive). We had to pay Moon Valley nursery to come and remove all the trees, pay for another crane, and pay for all new trees. BOV seems to think that the very little green at the base of the tree is acceptable to stare at for the next 3-4 years if they ever look like trees again. We would never recommend this company to anyone for anything plant related. They claim to be ethical, but if you have a high dollar issue that was caused by their poor quality, they will do anything to get out of doing the right thing. They seem more focused on their social media presence and videos and want to seem like experts, but they don't show what yards look like after they leave and do not honor their work.
