Brent J. Morris, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and fellowship trained shoulder and elbow surgeon offering expert orthopedic care for patients at his practice in Lexington, Kentucky. Dr. Morris is a shoulder and elbow expert who remains committed to research designed to improve patient care. He’s a leading researcher and has presented the results of his research both nationally and internationally. Dr. Morris has published over 50 peer-reviewed publications along with other invited articles and book chapters. He has published a textbook on shoulder surgery (Shoulder Arthroplasty 2nd Edition). Dr. Morris and his research team have published articles in several leading orthopedic journals including The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, The American Journal of Sports Medicine, Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery: Arthroscopy, and Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma among others. Dr. Morris greatly values education and served as the Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Fellowship Director for Texas Education and Research Foundation for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (TERFSES) while he was part of the teaching faculty in Houston, Texas. Dr. Morris is one of a select group of shoulder and elbow surgeons inducted into the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES). Dr. Morris is an Active Member of ASES. Dr. Morris is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and member of the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) Emerging Leaders Program. Dr. Morris is a native Kentuckian and was raised in Powell County.  Dr. Morris graduated from Powell County High School and then received his undergraduate degree from the University of the Cumberlands (formerly Cumberland College) where he graduated summa cum laude and was a 4-year member of the golf team. He earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. While at the University of Kentucky, Dr. Morris was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Gold Humanism Honor Society, and received the R. Von Myers II Award. He then completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Vanderbilt University. During his residency at Vanderbilt, he was very active in research and was awarded the Dr. Kathryn Cramer Outstanding Resident Research Award. He completed a Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship at Texas Orthopedic Hospital in affiliation with the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.  Dr. Morris practiced at Lexington Clinic in Lexington, Kentucky from 2014 to 2017, and then in Houston, Texas at the Fondren Orthopedic Group/Texas Orthopedic Hospital from 2017 to 2020.  Dr. Morris and his family were excited to have the opportunity to move back home to Lexington, Kentucky and join Baptist Health Lexington.  Dr. Morris is licensed to practice medicine in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Texas.
