Hello,
I currently attend Calvin Christian high school. I would like to address a few things I have heard and witnessed. First off I would like to say, the things I have heard from fellow classmates and teachers is genuinely shocking. The amount of sexist comments said by students and even TEACHERS is disappointing. I am a female that feels extremely discriminated against at this school, everyday I feel looked down upon by students especially male classmates. A few comments I have heard are things like "women shouldn't be working" or "women shouldn't have opinions" and the list goes on. Even if it's said in a joking manner, I still find it absolutely disrespectful coming from a christian school. I honestly expected much better from a religious school. Another issue that hasn't been talked about enough is the ableist comments coming from students. I have heard down syndrome be referred to as "side way syndrome" in a mocking way. I think this is incredibly insulting to those who live with disabilities. Teachers seem to also be neglecting these types of comments and issues. Another thing I'd like to bring attention to is a certain teacher who has made many offensive comments as well as shamed students. This teacher has said things like "I wish it was the good old days when you could slap students wrists with a ruler as discipline" along with other rude remarks. This certain teacher even makes students feel bad for not knowing an answer to a question, they say and I quote "that's embarrassing if you don't know the answer". If your kids need extra help or academic support just letting you know, there is none. Next thing I'd like to call attention to is the covid regulations that are nonexistent at our fine establishment
