Hannah Shaw 8 reviews a week ago NEW We've encountered Alpine twice now. First was around 2015-2016- they saw my son and recommended him for tubes in his ears and a tonsillectomy, and was told it was very urgent and important. After running through insurance benefits, they came back and said surgery would not be covered and gave us our price for out of pocket care (which was A LOT for us at the time). I asked how urgent the need for surgery was, and they told me it actually wasn't very urgent and was an elective procedure. Interesting that if insurance would have covered it, it was "urgent." Regardless, we cancelled surgery and had great success using chiropractic care and diet changes to resolve his issues. My next encounter was April 2023. I hoped they were different since my last encounter. I met with Dr. McKnight, who is a FANTASTIC surgeon and I highly recommend! However, it seems Alpine opts for shady billing practices. I received an estimate for my sinus surgery and assumed that would be paid at time of service. I received a call 2 days before surgery and was told I needed to pay my "patient portion" or surgery would be cancelled, so I made the payment. As the weeks passed from surgery, I received bills from the center, anesthesiologist, etc. All of those bills equaled my $7000 deductible, but the payment I made to Alpine put my bills about $3000 higher than my deductible. I called insurance to figure out what was going on, and they didn't see the payment to Alpine anywhere, and informed me that they had paid Alpine and my patient responsibility was $0. I called Alpine and was informed that they took my payment to "sit on in case insurance didn't pay" and that they would refund me if insurance paid out. That was not disclosed to me up front, and if I had only saved enough for my deductible, I would have been in a real bind. Seems Alpine likes to take interest-free loans from patients. I called back a couple of weeks later to check the status of my refund, and they told me "Ok, we'll go ahead and request that now." My previous call, I was told I WOULD be refunded and there was no mention about needing to formally request it. Now they had continued to sit on my money because I hadn't formally requested it. So, went through that process. Then they tell me refunds take 30-45 days to process. So, you DEMAND my money instantly, but get to take as long as you please to refund the money you wrongfully took to begin with? Shady crooks. Even if your services are covered by insurance, I would strongly recommend finding somewhere else to do business. This is how they treat their patients and it's wrong. If I had not called back to check on the status of my refund, they would have never refunded me and continued to be double-paid for my services. In fact, I have still yet to see my refund, so I guess we'll see how this all turns out.
