Violated by Southern Wrecker My life changed in an instant. I watched helplessly as all our belongings went up in flames on the side of the road near St Augustine, Florida. It’s Bad enough to experience total devastation but when Southern Wrecker took the charred remains of my RV to their compound and refused to let me enter their property to salvage my valuables - insult was added to injury. I was introduced to a company with a complete lack of humanity. I had been taught as a child to respect the first responder heroes that arrived on an accident scene to help the victim. My experienced proved to be very different. I left the scene of the fire that day with only the burnt shirt on my back. After getting my burns treated and bandaged, I went to the Salvation army for some clothes. When I contacted Southern Wrecker the next day to arrange to retrieve the prudent cash reserve safely stashed in a strong box and the Jewelry hidden in another safe place the clerk at Southern Wrecker refused to cooperate. I attempted to go up the chain of command. President Garrison Gaylord would not respond to any of my voice massages, emails or even the formal letters I mailed to him asking for his help. I contacted the FHP about this matter and Lieutenant Marqueaux launched a criminal investigation that was quaffed after only a few weeks. No explanation was provided. I appealed to Legal Aide for some help but going through the legal processes with a lawyer took months. Three weeks after the accident the remains of my RV were taken to the savage yard where I was allowed on the property. While looking through the charred remains I became fully aware that Southern Wrecker had pilfered everything of value, pried open the strong box, removed all the cash, jewelry and valuables. The remarks I heard from the manager at Copart revealed that this sort of behavior was common from the boys at Southern Wrecker. The judge who eventually heard the case admitted that the criminal behavior of Southern Wrecker was wrong but upheld their innocence because of an obscure statute of the law. I cannot fathom the psyche of the network of men who would do this to others or the stomach it must take to regularly disregard the hurt, wounded and displaced victim of tragedies to steal all that is left. Southern Wrecker clearly does not qualify as a compassionate, humanitarian or even honest First Responder with their selfish, clearly criminal motives supported by an obvious good old boy network. Southern Wrecker knows how to play the game that provides them perks from the victims of unfortunate accidents who fall prey to their unethical service, plus they have friends in high places who let them get away with it.
