We wanted to learn what makes this award-winning business tick, so we took a few minutes to talk with Matt Andrews, co-owner of Iron Pit Gym.
To kick off our conversation, we asked Matt about what makes Iron Pit Gym unique compared to the many other fitness centers in Indiana. Matt told us that it’s their family atmosphere, community culture and 24-hour access that truly set them apart, and said that they try to get to know their members’ names. He also pointed to his business partner, Doug, and said that they make a great team.
As the owners, Matt and Doug are there every day, and they truly care about their customers.
We also asked Matt about the Iron Pit Gym mission and how they work to make the world a better place. Matt shared with us that their goal is to offer exercise to their members 24 hours a day in a clean, safe, friendly environment. He told us that they give back to their community in many ways — sponsoring teams that go out and collect bags of trash at Lake Monroe, getting heavily involved with high schools and donating to sports teams, and coaching a volleyball team.
Building Success by Connecting With Their Customers
Matt credits Iron Pit Gym’s strong online reputation to their commitment to connecting with their customers, which they’ve had since they opened 25 years ago. Matt added:

Outside of building a powerful online reputation, Iron Pit Gym grew in the early years thanks to commercials, but these days, they rely on some radio ads and a little bit of social media, but mostly word of mouth to get their name out there.
