Not Your Average Home Contractor
We were excited to learn all about how Richard Harp Homes has been able to build such an exemplary reputation, so we sat down with Richard himself.
The first thing we wanted to know was what it is that makes Richard Harp Homes stand apart from their competitors. In Richard’s words, “My background is in finance and accounting. When I tailored that skill set to the building market I found out that building is a bit of a rogue industry. A lot of people can get into a construction job with little to no experience. We have been careful about who we hire and make sure our employees know what is and is not tolerated. We hire the best people we can to get a quality job done without breaking the bank. We tried to chase perfection for a long time, then realized there is no such thing as a perfect house. We just make sure that we hire courteous, professional people to do the job really well.”
When asked about why he does what he does, Richard said, “I wanted a house, so I built one myself. Once I learned how to do that, people would ask me to do it for them. I had a job but decided that if people trusted me to take care of them I could help. I’m just trying to be a trusted advisor explaining what needs to be done. I am an honest individual, and I want to convey that honesty to all my clients.”

“It’s going to come down to character and morals. You have to do the right thing. A lot of people want to make it FEEL like they’re doing the right thing, but they’re not actually doing it. You see it all the time. A business will do something wrong, they’ll get called out on it, they’ll apologize, a false apology will be issued, and the cycle will repeat. I build as if I’m planning on being audited tomorrow. When I sign a contract with someone I give them the opportunity to audit their section of my books. I tell my contractors the same thing. In 25 years I’ve never comprised my morals. If you do the right thing for a long enough period of time your business is going to be fine.”
