In order to learn a little about the business and how they managed to build such an enviable online reputation, we took a few minutes to talk with Toni Ann Accardi, owner of Recover Bodywork.
We first wanted to know what makes Recover Bodywork different from the many other massage therapy clinics in New Jersey. Here’s what Toni Ann had to say:
“The first thing that makes me different is that I am licensed in New Jersey and New York. I WANTED to continue my education, so I decided to go back to school to continue the hours to get my New York license. It’s a little more clinically focused. I really love learning and wanted to know everything there is to know! I chose to go above and beyond to receive more education, and I maintain both licenses. Another thing that makes me stand out is my cupping therapy. There aren’t many cupping practitioners, so there’s a lot of demand.”
Toni Ann added:
“A lot of people tell me that this is what they’ve been looking for. They don’t just mean massage; they mean the overall experience. I really pride my practice on having 30-minute breaks between, so I can have time to talk to my clients before and afterwards, ensuring that they can get my undivided attention. I’m not a doctor, but I give people time to go through everything that’s going on with their bodies, so I can help point them in the right direction for care.”

“I’ve received massages for years, and I’ve had a respect for massage for a really long time. I have a fascination for anatomy and how the body can heal itself, and I have a passion for massage. I focus both on therapeutic massage and helping the nervous system to relax. Massage can help balance out the body and relieve stress, along with improving overall well being. I’m really passionate about educating my clients about the power of self care. I like helping people, whether it be through touch, talk, education or empowerment.”

“The booking software that I use, massagebook.com, does a really good job of sending out an email to a client the day after their session asking for a review. When they do leave a review, they can do so anonymously or create an account, and they’re all verified, unlike Yelp. If I notice that I haven’t received a review from a new client, I will send the email again (up to three times), asking for one. I don’t give out any kind of incentives, I just ask nicely!”
When asked how she’s grown Recover Bodywork outside of building a powerful online reputation, Toni Ann said:
“I don’t really advertise in the traditional sense. I use Instagram to connect with my current and prospective clients, and cross post on Facebook. Word of mouth is the biggest way I get most of my clients, though. A lot of people are moving to this area, and people are finding me when they’re looking for good body work. It also really helps when my clients post about their experience and tag my business.”
It’s clear that Toni Ann has a lot of knowledge when it comes to growing a business and building an online reputation. Here’s her advice for the many other business owners out there working to do the same thing:
“Don’t think about the money! Obviously, as a business owner, every decision has to be financially sound, but if you focus on the money, you’ll sacrifice the customer experience. Focus on your clients! Schedule enough time so that you’re not rushing. Make sure you can put your best into every individual client and not have the quality of your service suffer. Make sure your clients feel that they’re being heard and that their problems are being addressed. Give every client the individual attention they deserve. Also, if you can’t help, be honest and try to point them to someone that will!”
