We wanted to learn what makes this award-winning business tick, so we took a few minutes to talk with Ken Farley, the Director of HisTown Dance Studio.
To kick off our conversation, we asked Ken about what it is that makes HisTown Dance Studio unique compared to the many other dance studios in Tennessee. Ken told us:
“We teach a wide variety of genres of dance for ages two and up, including ballet, hip-hop, jazz, contemporary, modern, musical theater, tap and acro. We offer very generous discounts for families with more than one child and a class schedule that makes it easy for siblings to attend different classes at the same time. We’re very upfront about the fact that we’re a faith-based, Christian dance studio, and that those values and beliefs are integrated into everything we do and how we treat our families and their children. This is also reflected in our more conservative approach with the choreography and modest costuming used in our recital performances. We’re also not a competitive dance studio, so there’s not the pressure and stress that can sometimes come with that aspect of dance studio life. But we’re still known for providing our students with very solid techniques and training, and utilizing a great team of teachers with a wealth of experience who also care about nurturing their hearts and minds as well.”
Ken went on to add:
“It’s got to be fun, too, and we want every student to be excited about coming to dance and leave looking forward to coming back for more. We love the fact that many consider HisTown to be their ‘home away from home’ or ‘second family.’ And whether a child is interested in taking dance for recreation or hoping to make it a professional career, there’s a place for them here. “HisTown was birthed more than 16 years ago when we saw an opportunity to provide training in various genres of dance in a Christian setting, where dancers can use their God-given gifts and talents for ministry, outreach and entertainment. With an emphasis on strong technique and professional training, it is our goal to provide a positive, fun and encouraging atmosphere that every dancer can thrive in. We encourage each dancer to be the best they can be, without feeling the need or pressure to compete with each other, and we view dance as a team activity where it’s important to support and cheer on their fellow dancers along the way. It is an honor for us to work with such a wonderful group of teachers and students who share our passion for the art of dance.”
