At Top Rated Local, we know how important five-star reviews and a strong online reputation are for any business, and we sat down with Office Manager, Britney Pineda, to learn about AC Medic’s secrets to success. Here’s what she had to say:
What is your secret to such a strong online reputation?
To be honest, we don’t do much. I manage our online reviews, but our whole family is involved in making sure our customers are taken care of in the best way possible. My sister, Rachel, and my dad, Bob, kindly ask that clients who are satisfied with their experience leave a review online.
What makes you different? In other words, if you had one minute to sell somebody on why they should choose you, what would you say?
This business was built on my dad. He has more than 30 years of HVAC experience. He wears many hats as the owner, general manager, primary installer and quality assurer. And behind him is basically our whole family. My mom handles the finances, my dad works in the field and my sister and I handle the office work. People trust us because we’ve earned their friend’s trust, their neighbor’s trust or their family member’s trust.
Why do you do what you do? In other words, what is your mission and/or how do you attempt to make the world a better place?
The first thing is that we honestly put helping people above making a profit. We have a large community of elderly people, and we’ve gotten calls from many individuals saying one of our competitors came to their house and said they needed to pay a large sum of money to replace their furnace. My dad will go check it out, and often times, it’s as simple as replacing the igniter — which is much more affordable for the client, who’s often on a fixed income.
The second thing is that, after every single job, Rachel calls the client to make sure that their experience was great, and lets them know that Bob will be coming to ensure the job was done correctly on the technical side as well.
Outside of building a strong online reputation, what else do you do to market and grow your business?
Action Pages, a local phone book, has been the biggest driving force of business for a long time. A lot of our clients are less tech-savvy than clients in a different region might be, so we don’t invest much in SEO or paid advertisements online. Word of mouth referrals are our second biggest driver of business.
What advice do you have for other businesses trying to build a strong online reputation and grow their business?
Don’t be afraid to ask for reviews. We ask our clients for reviews twice, once when Rachel checks on their experience and again when my dad checks the work for quality assurance. Sometimes, people had an awesome experience but forgot to leave a review after the first ask. If we ask them again, they will probably do it.
