We wanted to learn all about Knilans’ Furniture & Interiors and its impressive online reputation, so we took a few minutes to talk with the owner, Tim Schlicksup.
The first question we had for Tim was what is it that sets Knilans’ Furniture & Interiors apart from their competition in Iowa. Here’s Tim’s response:
“We are the last high-end interior design furniture store standing in the region. What makes us unique is that we are a full-service furniture store with a huge selection of top-quality manufacturers and products. The whole team is really interior-design-focused and have the skill set to put projects together. There is really no one else of our size and quality level in the marketplace.”
Knilans’ Furniture was started in 1955 by Bob and Virginia Knilans. Tim’s father, Pete, bought the store from the Knilans’ in 1975. Tim grew up working in the warehouse and store. He moved away for a while but decided to come back in 2004. He worked alongside his parents for a few years before taking over the store in 2010.
We also wanted to know what their mission is at Knilans’ Furniture & Interiors and how they work to make the world a better place. Tim told us that their mission is customer satisfaction and to provide quality, comfortable, custom pieces for their customers.

“We truly believe in customer service more than anything. Our marketplace is too small to have anyone not enjoy what we did for them, which makes customer satisfaction paramount. We enjoy making people’s homes beautiful with high-quality products that do exactly what they are supposed to, last a long time and are comfortable. When a product fails to meet expectations, we will take care of it. You also have to have the right people working for you. From my delivery people to my customer service staff to my sales designers, they are all empowered to make decisions as if they were the customer.
