To learn a little more about the business and how they managed to build such an enviable online reputation, we took a few minutes to talk with Chris Grissim, owner of Mow Hawk Lawn Care.
The first question we had for Chris was what sets Mow Hawk Lawn Care apart from the many other lawn care companies in Alabama. Here’s his response:
“We are responsive to our customers. We can take on any kind of work; we can take on anything big, small — everything. We operate a little differently than most companies. I contract work out. My company doesn’t really do much of the work ourselves, so we’re not having to turn down work; we can take everything that comes our way. We’re a little bit like HomeAdvisor, not nationwide but locally; we handle the lawn care industry or service. We also do pressure washing and window cleaning.”
We also wanted to know what their mission is at Mow Hawk Lawn Care and how they work to make the world a better place. Here’s what Chris had to say:
“[Our mission is to] take care of our customers the best we can and make sure they are always pleased. We try to follow up every time we refer work to someone else. We always follow up and try to make sure everything is good. We want to give quality companies to these customers when they call. We want to make sure they are doing good, because if they don’t or if they aren’t responsive on the phone, like we expect them to be, we quit using them. That’s our way of making sure everyone is doing what they are supposed to do.”

“That’s it — online, that’s all that we do. I handle all the online stuff. I learned how to do this myself. I started out as a lawn mowing service. The guy I had doing my website got out, so I had to learn how to do all that. I create other websites as well. What I do is try to eliminate my competition online. In the lawn care category, I have about three different websites going that push my competition down. They all call me — all the customers. There’s no need for me to do any paid advertisement. We are in a high-tech city, and a lot of people are moving here; there will probably be 40,000 people moving here in the next two years. I’ve got more work than all these companies I’m dealing with can handle. I’m constantly looking for new people to do work.”

“Don’t do anything but spend money. You either spend money or learn how to do it yourself. Everyone goes online to look for people now to do any kind of service. A lot of these companies don’t understand the value of marketing.”
