Not Your Average Dental Clinic
Shannon Rodrigues Espinola, Associate Dentist and soon-to-be President of Rodrigues Dental Group, generously gave us a few minutes of her time to tell us about this one-of-a-kind business and its award-winning online reputation.
The first thing we wanted to know was what it is that sets Rodrigues Dental Group apart from the many other dental clinics in Massachusetts. Here’s Shannon’s response:
“We keep most of the dental work in-house. There are very few referrals. Obviously, I’m a General Dentist, and there are special cases that need to go to oral surgery or endodontics or orthodontics, but aside from child orthodontics, we do Invisalign, I do my own extractions most of the time, all of my own root canals — unless I can’t find a canal. We may need to go to a specialist who has microscopes and equipment that’s more fine-tuned than mine. But we try to keep as much in-house as possible, and we also try to keep it affordable.”
Shannon went on to add:
“We’re a family practice. We see kids starting at age three; we do almost anything here — implants, dentures, and we’re always taking new patients. We’re Portuguese-speaking and just hired a new associate dentist who is Spanish-speaking.”
We also wanted to know why they do what they do at Rodrigues Dental Group and how they work to make the world a better place. Shannon told us that they work to better their community by providing quality dental work. She added:
“We do a lot of donations to local high schools and things like that, but we also work with people who don’t have insurance by offering payment plans and pricing. We work with them and do what we can within their budget.”
Building Success by Asking for Reviews
When we asked Shannon about Rodrigues Dental Group’s secret to such a strong online reputation, she told us that their website servicer sends out a request for a review when a patient leaves the office. They make it a point to only ask a client for a review once.

“We don’t advertise. My father started the business in 1981, and he’s now retiring. I’m buying the business this year. It’s been a lifetime family business, and people like that it’s small scale; however, we accommodate people; we see people during emergencies; we have a 24-hour answering service, and everybody knows everybody in the office.”
Clearly, Shannon knows a thing or two about growing a business and building an online reputation. Here’s her expert advice for the many other business owners out there:
“I have an online company that started as my website producer and coordinator about 10 years ago, and they’ve evolved into this and helped with our communication. I decided that, since there are not really any more phone books and things like that, I would put that money into investing in our business. Look for online servicers. They look at our Google presence, our Yahoo presence; they look at our reviews; they notify us if we have negative reviews (knock on wood, they’ve never notified me for that, but I could respond if that were the case).”
