We were excited to catch up with Finest Tree Service and hear about how the last year has gone for them, so we sat down with the office manager, Wendy Schroeder.
Wendy started off by telling us a bit about their business and their team, as well as what makes them stand out compared to others in the industry. She told us about Bryan’s passion for both the trees and the customers, saying:
“Bryan cares about both the clients and the trees. Caring about the client and the trees as a licensed arborist makes a real difference when assessing a client’s needs. Often, he’ll advise against taking a tree out if it has life left and doesn’t pose a risk. We have six full-time staff, and we subcontract as needed.”
When it comes to their accomplishments over the last year, Wendy said that it’s been the consistency of their business. She said that it’s been busy for them, and that October is usually a time when their business starts to slow, but that’s not the case this year! She said that they are still going strong!
Making It As A Small Business
It takes a lot of courage and even more hard work to make it as a small business in today’s world. We asked Wendy what has been the most rewarding part of being a small business like Finest Tree Service. She said that for her and Bryan, their favorite part is being able to meet and talk with new people all the time. They truly love the interactions they get to have with their customers.
Wendy also told us about the biggest lessons they have learned so far as a business, stressing that new business owners figure out how to balance work and life effectively. She shared:
“From the start, invest the time you need to into your business, but find a strong work/life balance. If you don’t, it will be hard to recover the life part. Set firm boundaries for yourself, and find time to attend to both. Bryan is very hands-on, and one of his biggest challenges has been finding a way to delegate more and not be involved in every tiny detail of the business.”
