Catered By Charlotte has become a staple in Iowa City and the surrounding areas, and has been recognized for its extensive menu options, fresh ingredients, and ability to offer a one-stop shop for all of your catering needs.
We were excited to learn all about Catered By Charlotte and how they have gotten where they are today, so we sat down with the owner, Charlotte Nielson.
The first thing we wanted to know was what it is that makes Catered By Charlotte stand apart from its competitors. Charlotte attended the University Of Iowa and has been in business for 19 years, so she has managed to gain strong name recognition in the area. She expressed gratitude for their loyal customer base and said that anyone has the opportunity to read reviews about the business or ask if they can contact someone she has catered for, which has been very positive for her business. She went on to tell us a bit more about the specific service she provides, and how being a customized catering specialist keeps the needs of her customers at the forefront in that all they do:
“We refer to ourselves as customized catering specialists because we don’t have preset prices, and we don’t have preset menus to choose from. We allow our customers to build their own menu, and then we price it out for them; we don’t make them pay for anything they don’t need. In addition to that, we are a full-service catering company. We can coordinate rentals and beverages, as well as provide food and staff for any event.”
When we asked about the Catered By Charlotte business mission, Charlotte shared:
“Our mission is to provide the best food and service possible, so that our clients don’t ever want to have the opportunity to go with a different caterer. We’re a one-stop shop, where we can coordinate rentals, provide beverages, provide staffing, and of course, provide the food. So, we try to make it all as easy as possible [for our clients]. Whether it’s a small, intimate family gathering or a huge wedding reception, we make it so you don’t have to go to multiple places to get the job done. If you’re in need of things, like beverages, whether alcoholic or not, or are in need of [flatware] service, disposables, or staff, we can provide all of it.”
Charlotte also told us about some of the incredible hard work that goes into being a business owner and how she, personally, ensures the award-winning quality of everything they provide:
“I personally work seven days a week. I’m not an absentee owner, where I leave my business in the hands of others… I know that I’m the one that is 100-percent accountable [for what we provide]. At the end of the day, it’s my name, it’s my reputation, and it’s my telephone number that my customers have, so I have to make sure that everything is perfect before it goes out the door.”
Building Success With Passion
Catered By Charlotte has earned a phenomenal reputation over the years, so we were excited to learn about some of the ways they have gotten their name out and grown their business. Though most of their success has come thanks to word of mouth, Charlotte told us that it was her New Year’s Resolution to be more involved on Facebook. She said:
“When we go and cater events, like weddings, where there is staff involved, once it’s all set up, I have this underlying mission to ask them to go around and take photos of everything so I can put them up on the website. Then, people who Google me can see pictures of our work and see the quality and how beautifully displayed it is.”
