Not Your Average Catering Company
We were excited to learn all about Ken’s Creative Kitchen and how they have gotten where they are today, so we sat down with the owner, Ken Upton.
Ken’s Creative Kitchen has been in business for 32 years. Ken told us that he had decided to buy a restaurant, even though he’d never even worked in one, because he thought he could do better than what he was seeing! He made the decision to buy only the best ingredients, cook to order, and treat people right. They serve weddings, rehearsal dinners, funerals, and birthday parties.
“We’re an independent company, and I very carefully choose my staff based on not only their talent, but also their attitudes. Everyone here cares about your event and about each other! We build the menu around our customers, too. We want to make sure to tailor the food to be what you would like, not what we would like.”
Earning a Great Reputation
Ken’s Creative Kitchen has earned a phenomenal reputation, so we were excited to chat with Ken about some of the ways they have marketed and grown over the years. He attributes their success to word of mouth, even though he said that he has never had to ask for a review! He said that being big in the community has helped them immensely, and that they cater events all around the surrounding areas. Ken said that their reputation has kept them busy.

“Starting a business is hard, and a lot of people don’t make it. In order for it to work, you need to treat others the way you’d like to be treated. Don’t take more than you can handle and hope it works out, because that’s not how it’s done. Make sure you know what you’re doing, too. You can’t just rubber stamp your business. You have to craft your business around your clients and what they are looking for. Don’t do what I did and jump in without any experience!”
