Local Moving owner, Joseph Juanda, took some time to chat with us about his company’s exemplary online reputation. This is what he thought we should know:
What is your secret to such a strong online reputation?
For us, a lot of things combine to build our reputation, but the main thing is our employees. We work hard to provide them with a good environment because we know that when you take care of your employees, they will take care of you and their customers. We take a lot of pride in what we do. We have review contests and push reviews quite a bit. This is not to say we’re perfect; we definitely make mistakes and have issues, but how we handle those mistakes has helped our reputation. We would rather the mistake come out of our pocket than our customers’.
What makes you different? In other words, if you had one minute to sell somebody on why they should choose you, what would you say?
We’re a moving company run by movers. I was a mover for years before even opening the company, and everyone at every level with us has that experience under their belt. I think of myself as a mover first and an owner second. It’s not an easy job, and to be good at it is something to be proud of. When you care and take pride in what you do, it reflects positively on the company and how you run things.
Why do you do what you do? In other words, what is your mission and/or how do you attempt to make the world a better place?
Moving is one of the most stressful things in people’s lives. We get an opportunity to help people get through it and take a little bit of that stress away. I feel that I get a lot of opportunities not only to help my employees and customers, but the community as a whole. We work with an organization that hands out bikes to elementary schools, and we try to engage in charitable events when opportunities become available. We have the manpower to do it. We also offer free moving services to veterans.
Outside of building a strong online reputation, what else do you do to market and grow your business?
Word of mouth is big for us. The more we do a good job, the more recommendations we get. Sometimes, we run radio ads, but we focus more heavily on online marketing.
What advice do you have for other businesses trying to build a strong online reputation and grow their business?
Reviews are everything; that’s where most people go to find any service these days, and it’s really your livelihood. I think a lot of companies chase revenue, but they don’t understand that this isn’t a sprint, this is a marathon — and in the long run, if you take care of your customers and focus less on money, you will be more successful. Take care of your employees and pay them a fair wage. After all, you’re investing in your employees, and if you treat them like an investment, they will take care of you.
